  • Day 3 at the US Open

Posted on June 19, 2010 by Rob

One of the most interesting things about golf is that there are many different ways to obtain a certain score. The round is truly eighteen different legs on a journey that can differ slightly or significantly from previous days on the same track.

Ryan really had to work for his score today and +4 was a pretty darn good number with the strong winds and bumpy greens. On top of the environmental conditions, Ryan was not hitting fairways like he had been on Thursday when he shot the same +4 score - but his scrambling was fantastic. It was moving day and Ryan was firing at pins and trying to climb up the leaderboard.

  • Day 2 at the US Open

Posted on June 19, 2010 by Rob

Pro golfers often talk about "grinding", especially at big tournaments on tough courses.

The second day at the US Open was a huge grind for Ryan but he got it done with three key birdies down the stretch.

Once again, Ryan's round was not far from perfection. He missed three fairways, a couple of greens and had one three putt.

Ryan was two over after two holes - a tough start. He had a few looks at birdie on the stretch that followed but nothing dropped. Then on the 9th, Ryan hit a drive to the right side of the fairway and had a pretty good angle coming in. His approach shot was "perfect" landing short of the green exactly where he wanted it to, but instead of bouncing up close to the pin it took a drastic kick to the left into the "gunch", or long grass, above the lip of the bunker.

  • Opening Round at The US Open

Posted on June 18, 2010 by Rob

Following Ryan's group around on the first day at The US Open was eye opening, especially for an amateur who had never been to a Major before.

On TV, everything tends to look a lot more flat and uniform than it really is - the topography at Pebble Beach is wonderful. At the venue, you can actually "feel" what the players are going through - the tension in the air is palpable from start to finish. Simply put, the US Open is a grind of monumental proportions in the world of golf.

  • TRUE is at The US Open!

Posted on June 16, 2010 by Rob

TRUE linkswear is currently ensconced at Pebble Beach.

We will be sending out a new blog each day discussing something interesting we noticed.

Check out this photo of Ryan putting - Pebble Beach Golf Links is one of the most beautiful courses I have ever seen. The ocean holes are gorgeous and playing downright nasty for the US Open.

I wanted to write briefly about tempo and it's tremendous value to a successful golf swing.

  • For those interested in our technical specs . . .

you will have to wait a little longer. We worked on developing our shoe for quite some time so we want to keep specific info under wraps for now.

At TRUE linkswear, we believe that our golf shoes are the lightest, most comfortable and lowest to the ground that are in play on the PGA Tour.

Since Ryan started wearing them at the Colonial and then the Memorial, a few other pros have been asking for a pair which gives us warm fuzzies. Who knows, they might show up on TV this week in Memphis, even though Ryan is preparing for the US Open at home in Tacoma . . . Continue Reading

  • Finding a Brand Ambassador

Posted on June 9, 2010 by Rob

Let's be honest, a lot of modern athletes are a little too focused on a guaranteed paycheck. They want big contracts and are often willing to wear anything for the "right" amount of money.

How do I know? Well, in golf, most premium performance golf shoes are uncomfortable, heavy, way too far off the ground and they give me blisters. Why are pros wearing these shoes for 72 holes every week? Must be the money.

Either the athletes are not telling the companies they endorse about the importance of comfort, stability, weight and the ability to feel the course as a golfer, or the companies aren't listening. Continue Reading

  • My TRUE Story - Sean

Posted on June 6, 2010 by Rob

    My TRUE story

The first flash of inspiration for TRUE Linkswear fittingly occurred on a golf course.

I was walking 18 at my home course with a guy who was playing in the Vibram Five Fingers shoes.  I thought they were some of the wildest looking shoes I’d ever seen, and I wasn’t alone.  Four (!?!) different groups asked my playing partner about them during the round. He was a true believer who wore his Five Fingers shoes all day, every day. Needless to say he  passionately introduced me to the barefoot concept.

I met Rob (now President of TRUE linkswear) a few weeks before that round, and I joined his Walking Golfers Society.  The Walking Golfer is a site dedicated to promoting the holistic benefits of walking golf, ranging from health to a closer connection with your friends and nature on the course.

I told my Five Fingers playing partner that if the barefoot guys ever got together with the Walking Golfer guys, there might be a business there.  Who knew??? Continue Reading
